Norfolk Woman Creates Unique Knitting Yarn
A designer from Welney in West Norfolk has developed a unique knitting yarn from indigo dyed cotton, which looks just like denim. The yarn, which is believed to be unique in the UK, is the latest development from Fiona, who started her business “High Fibre” just over a year ago after moving to her new studio in the Fens.
“ I’ve always had a hands on approach to knitwear design and lots of experimenting have led to the creation of my unique chunky knitted yarns where the textured or coloured effects are knitted in rather than dyed or applied”
Using natural fibres in beautiful colours the yarns are knitted by machine and hand finished and sold as yarns, or knitted up by Fiona into distinctive garments, textile pieces or accessories
“The new denim yarn is really exciting it even fades as it goes through the normal washing process. giving a lovely distressed look.” she says
Fiona, who draws inspiration from old handicraft books and her passion for vintage textiles of the 60’s and 70’s will be displaying her colourful work and demonstrating knitting at the Produced In Norfolk Shop at the Gressenhall Farm and Work House which opens again over the August Bank Holiday
