Better labelling of Britsih Pork
A recent report from a group of MPs has called on the government to support a campaign for pig products to be labelled with country of origin and welfare standard labels.
It came as the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee published its investigation into the country's pig industry this month. It reveals that as much as two thirds of imported pig meat might have been reared in conditions banned in this country.
Richard Bacon MP for South Norfolk and a parliamentary champion of the British pig industry said that the report found that pig farmers were not receiving their fair share of the retail price when taking into account the cost of production and the investment needs of the industry and is calling for compulsory better labelling..
All PIN pork producers have high animal welfare standards and grow their pigs in Norfolk.
“It’s very important consumers understand the value of supporting genuine Norfolk pig farmers” explains Jane Miller Director of Produced In Norfolk. “The UK is far ahead of the rest of the world with regards to animal welfare and I believe you can taste the difference.”
